Even the Toronto Maple Leafs know all about 4-1 leads and how simple it is to give up them . The most memorable of all had been that a collapse in 2013 in the 3rd period from the Boston Bruins in Game 7. That game still feels like yesterday for Leafs fans.
Leafs Nation were aware of how a 4-1 lead at the 3rd isnt safe. The Montreal Canadiens scored 4 unanswered goals to take a lead in regulation. Toronto appeared dead after enjoying the night ahead. You could tell that their brakes fell off in the 3rd period.
Auston Matthews struck late to tie the match up to get a point out of the evening. Michael Hutchison was reluctantly outplayed by Carey Price, When it went to a shootout. When they wanted the bonus point, the Leafs had to finish it . They did have pressure on Price, but he came up big to help keep the puck from the net. Price came up big when it mattered in overtime. He will certainly have to be greater compared to the performance he put on for 3 periods.
The Maple Leafs will get back out on the ice Monday night. A measuring rod is going to be in Toronto, as the St. Louis Blues is going to probably likely soon be on the ice with the Leafs. The defending Stanley Cup champs are away to a 1-0-1 beginning, with an overtime loss to a 3-2 triumph over the Stars along with the Capitals in the season opener on Saturday night.
This will be their first road contest of their year. Frederik Andersen is scheduled to be back in net for the Maple Leafs tonight, and that they wont have the benefit of shooting off on Hutchison such as the Canadiens failed on Saturday. Jordan Binnington is likely for the Blues between the pipes. Head below for our complimentary Blues vs. Maple Leafs pick.
The absence of Frederik Andersen on Saturday night was the difference in the match. The Leafs were so Andersen had the night away. It was not trauma related . If it were, that the Leafs will be in big trouble this season. On Friday night, Anderson was playing from his mind to receive his team a win.
The scoreboard did not tell the entire story of the competition. Andersen was superb in Columbus, although the Leafs may have won by a score of 4-1. He stopped 28 shots, that doesnt look awfully impressive, however, the Jackets did possess several scoring chances in front of the web. Andersen is going to need some support out of his offence, though, and the Blues do a tremendous job , while Auston Matthews was the sniper in the NHL to start the entire year.
St. Louis have enabled two goals in law in each of the two games this year. The Capitals found a goal in overtime to defeat the Blues night, however, Binnington was strong with 31 saves. Binnington enters Toronto with a 2.44 GAA and 0.921 save percent. Combined together with all his rookie season, Binnington owns a career GAA of 1.94 and also 0.926 save percent.
The Leafs are a group the Blues have generally been in a position to silence on offence. They have managed to score just 4 goals in their previous three meetings against the Blues. Toronto have realised only 1.6 goals per game in their past six contrary to the St. Louis defence. Note that the Leafs have scored over 2 goals just once.
The Blues have a knack of forcing groups to perform their new hockey and its worked against the Leafs to the past few decades a year past. They need to have the ability to do that to an extent on Monday. The Leafs will be certainly helped by andersen in net here. The UNDER has gone 4-1 in their five meetings, together with a marker of 3-0-1 in their last four at Toronto. Expect a last score of 3-2 or 4-2 to put this one UNDER the total.
