Denis Irwin believes Manchester United’s hopes of a season rest on the back of Paul Pogba.

“There isn’t too many gamers of Paul’s quality," Irwin stated. “He’s got lots of players in front of him who’ve got great pace and I think he has the comprehension of being able to choose a wonderful pass.
“We want consistency from him sometimes but going forward now and especially where we’ve started controlling games he’s going to become a big, big player for us.
“I think every team needs a risk taker but I look at him and think he’s the one that could unlock doors.
“We’ve created enough chances to win games so he is likely to be vitally important for us."
United have picked up four points from their opening five games, which makes them in place going into the global break.
They had been forced to settle for a draw away at Southampton on Saturday, leaving them without a win since their opening day.
Irwin is convinced that his former side says and are currently going in the ideal direction that fans need to accept the process will take time.
“I understand that we’ve only picked two points up from three games but it feels like we need to have a lot more," Irwin added.
“We might have to take a small bit of patience and also we may not challenge the best two this season but certainly we need to maintain there and much better than annually.
United will be sweating on the fitness of summer enrolling Aaron Wan Bissaka, who had been made to withdraw with a spine injury from England’s squad on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old has amazed because his #50m go from Crystal Palace, also Irwin considers Wan Bissaka and summertime improvement Harry Maguire will bolster a United defence which accelerates 54 goals last year.
“His design sense appears really, really good," Irwin explained.
“That is a massive surprise for someone that’s been winger for a long time. He’s got a lot to understand but he’s been a big plus this year.
“We need to start keeping clean sheets again but I believe we’ve begun making steps in the ideal direction in helping in our defensive work, I truly do."
